Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Traumatic hemorrhagic shock is a major cause of mortality worldwide. Uncontrolled hemorrhage is time-dependent and a potentially reversible cause of death. Lifesaving management includes early identification and aggressive, goal-directed strategies aimed at minimizing blood loss and restoration of tissue perfusion. The purpose of this session is to challenge experienced critical care practitioners to consider evidence-based approaches to resuscitation of traumatic shock victims.

Objectives

  • Discuss the clinical presentation of compensated and uncompensated shock states.
  • Identify endpoints which may be used to evaluate tissue perfusion and oxygenation during shock resuscitation.
  • Examine evidence-based strategies for traumatic hemorrhagic shock resuscitation.
