About 620,000 children are victims of abuse and neglect yearly, and nearly 1,750 die from their injuries. This intermediate session offers a comprehensive overview of child physical abuse. Research data and expert recommendations inform diagnostic evaluation and injury management. Participants diagnose and manage both straightforward and complex cases of physical child abuse through case study scenarios and leave with strategies to formulate a patient and family management plan.

Objectives

  • Identify the clinical presentation and injury patterns associated with pediatric inflicted trauma.
  • Propose radiographic and laboratory diagnostic testing and management guidelines for child abuse victims.
  • Analyze common issues associated with caring for child abuse victims and their families.
