Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Acute and critically ill patients frequently have acid-base disturbances. Correct, rapid interpretation is essential. This intermediate-level session uses multiple case studies to help participants utilize a systematic approach to interpret complex acid-base disorders, including mixed disorders. The session also covers use of anion gap to help recognize the form of acid-base disturbance present.

Objectives

  • Employ at least one systematic, rapid method of interpreting primary acid-base disturbances.
  • Differentiate between compensation and a mixed disorder in case examples.
  • Distinguish types of acid-base disturbances based on the anion gap.
