Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

A foundational discussion of the unique needs of the LGBTQIA community as a patient population. This course introduces inclusive vocabulary, communication tools and strategies to improve dialogue and patient relations with LGBTQIA patients, visitors and coworkers. The course also addresses and clarifies common misconceptions persisting in traditional healthcare curricula.

Objectives

  • Explain terminology used to describe different facets of the LGBTQIA community.
  • Identify health disparities known to occur within this population.
  • Illustrate techniques providers can use to foster supportive conversations with patients and visitors.
