Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Rheumatology is a medical specialty often viewed as a zebra, mystery, or diagnosis of exclusion. In this presentation, nurses and nurse practitioners will learn common rheumatological diseases and the pathophysiology requiring critical care. Manifestation and management of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), scleroderma, vasculitis, and inflammatory arthritis will be presented by system. Pharmacology will include chronic management, as well as discussion of acute and critical interventions.

Objectives

  • Distinguish patient presentations with a rheumatologic etiology and effectively consult appropriate services.
  • Select common diagnostics and therapeutics involved in rheumatologic care within acute or critical care.
  • Identify critical presentations of rheumatologic diseases and appropriate stabilizing interventions.
