Radiographs play an integral role in patient diagnosis and management in the pediatric critical care setting. The nurse can learn to recognize radiographic patterns and distinguish normal versus abnormal presentations. The aim is to provide a systematic method to interpret radiographs. An interactive review of images helps identify the placement of tubes, catheters and wires commonly seen in acute care settings.

Objectives

Describe a systematic approach to interpreting pediatric radiographs.
Differentiate normal and abnormal findings on pediatric chest radiographs.
Identify the correct and incorrect placement of tubes, catheters and lines commonly seen in critically ill children.
