Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Performing a comprehensive cardiac assessment requires skills in recognizing abnormal heart sounds. This session provides knowledge and skills necessary in identifying abnormal heart sounds and murmurs in the adult patient. Thorough cardiac examination is key to early recognition and management of pathologic diseases associated with abnormal heart sounds. This session utilizes interactive case studies to impact learner outcomes.

Objectives

  • Explain mechanisms which cause heart sounds and murmurs.
  • Identify heart sounds and murmurs, causes, location for acusculation and in what part of the cardiac cycle the murmur is best heard.
  • Correlate the heart sounds to disease pathologies.
