Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

In this session, leaders from three different health care systems describe strategies to address staffing through approaches that support novice nurses. The strategies include the use of virtual nursing as part of the care team, development of an academic-practice partnership to support the transition from student to employee and incorporating the float pool as a clinical site in a nurse residency program. Attendees are encouraged to consider applying these approaches in their own setting.

Objectives

  • Determine new approaches to support novice nurses in their unit and/or organization.
  • Describe how practice-academic partnerships and float pool orientation can improve transition to practice for novice nurses.
  • Identify strategies for incorporating virtual nursing into the care delivery model.
