Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

APRNs are an increasing addition to ICU teams with the expectation they identify, manage, and collaborate when caring for ICU patients, regardless of patient complexity. However, patients often have mixed presentations and/or multi-morbid conditions further complicating their clinical picture. This session uses a case study format that moves the participant through differential diagnoses, diagnostics, and medical management to appropriately identify HFrEF, PE, drug toxicity and GI hemorrhage.

Objectives

  • Identify acute and/or decompensated disease states that mimic other disease states.
  • Review clinical findings and diagnostics which help differentiate between acute and/or decompensated disease states.
  • Discuss the treatment plan, including medication management, for the acute and/or decompensated disease states.
