Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

An increasing incidence of paripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) in the U.S. disproportionally affects African American women due to genetics. This session covers the pathophysiology, diagnostics and treatment of cardiogenic shock specific to the PPCM patient. Case studies provide participants with advanced knowledge regarding the diagnosis and treatment of cardiogenic shock to achieve optimal outcomes for mother and fetus in the PPCM population.

Objectives

  • Describe the pathophysiology of PPCM and how cardiogenic shock can develop.
  • Discuss the tests used in diagnosing and treating cardiogenic shock in the PPCM patient.
  • Analyze the management and pharmacologic options in the treatment of cardiogenic shock in the PPCM patient.
