Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Gram stains, bacterial cultures, institutional antibiograms and antibiotic sensitivity testing are all used to make decisions about appropriate antibiotic coverage, but can be challenging to interpret. This session focuses on microbiology and pharmacology. We review classes of antibiotics and discuss the interpretation of these tools using a case-based approach.

Objectives

  • Discuss the different classes of antibiotics.
  • Analyze gram stains and bacterial cultures.
  • Choose antibiotics based on antibiotic sensitivity testing.
