Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programs are increasingly being implemented to reduce surgical stress following cardiac surgery. However they have also greatly impacted our frontline, as the standardization has allowed for decreased variability and improved staff satisfaction. This exciting session is appropriate for all levels of the multidisciplinary team and will provide content and strategies for starting an ERAS program. The presentation features ERAS leaders representing the ERAS Cardiac Society Executive Board.

Objectives

  • Outline how to standardize ERAS protocols for care of cardiac surgery patients.
  • Identify skills needed to engage the multidisciplinary healthcare team and patients.
  • Discuss protocols to improve the quality of patient care and reduce postoperative complications and costs after heart surgery.
