Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

In fundamental arrhythmia classes, nurses learn that all wide complex tachycardias are ventricular tachycardia until proven otherwise. This intermediate to advanced level session gives critical care nurses the tools, utilizing a variety of methods, to determine whether the wide complex tachycardia is truly ventricular tachycardia. A number of newer algorithms, as well as more classic criteria, are presented.

Objectives

  • Discuss various algorithms that provide methods to separate ventricular ectopy from supraventricular ectopy with aberrancy.
  • Distinguish ventricular axis and typical QRS configurations of bundle branch blocks.
  • Apply various methods covered in multiple case studies to differentiate between types of wide complex tachycardias.
