Appropriate staffing is an essential element for a healthy work environment. It is important for nurse leaders to work with staff and advocate for safe and appropriate staffing to improve retention and staff well-being for a healthy work environment. This session offers tangible resources for the participants to take back to their units to address their staffing challenges.

Objectives

  • Describe methods to improve staffing, including technology and policies.
  • Summarize AACN’s Guiding Principles and the issues from the Nurse Staffing Think Tank and the Nurse Staffing Task Force.
  • Identify how appropriate staffing can increase safety, retention, and staff well-being.
