Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Caring for veterans requires an understanding of the unique cultural and health needs of this population. This foundational session provides attendees with an understanding of special care needs of veterans, trauma-informed care principles and exemplar strategies to facilitate quality and veteran-centered care in nonveteran facilities.

Objectives

  • Describe unique characteristics and health care needs of the veteran population.
  • Define principles of trauma-informed care and relevance to the veteran population.
  • Identify strategies from veteran trauma-informed best practices which can be applied to current nursing practice.
