Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Brain and spine pathologies can be mysterious and intimidating to ICU nurses who must perform serial neuro assessments in their patients to monitor stability. This session uses case studies to highlight different neurologic pathologies and present specific strategies depending on the disease process. This enables the ICU nurse to focus their assessment correctly and determine significant changes in the patient.

Objectives

  • Identify key components of the advanced comprehensive neurologic exam.
  • Relate neuro assessment parameters to specific neurologic pathologies.
  • Formulate a focused assessment summary to the provider, detailing a patient’s neuro status.
