Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Changing to a float pool dedicated preceptor model with a skill layered orientation created a healthier work environment within the float pool. Evidenced by increased work satisfaction and decreased stress and retention increased from 85%-100%. Strong collaboration between leadership and the Nurse Residency program has made this change a success. With the implementation of the skill layered orientation we have created a path for true collaboration for preceptor and orientee growth

Objectives

  • The audience will see history of increasing graduate nurse hires and retention rates within the float nurse residency program.
  • The essential elements that have fostered success for float pool preceptors, and non-dedicated orientation units will be demonstrated.
  • Audience will see how the preceptor/orientee relationships have improved through innovation to allow a seamless transition to practice.
