Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Nursing turnover is a major issue, nationally, with the greatest number leaving after 2 to 5 years. Although adult critical care nurses are among the groups leaving the workforce in the greatest numbers, limited information specific to pediatric critical care nurses exists. Results of a working group-generated survey describe the experiences of a large national collaborative from 32 pediatric critical care programs (C4-MNP, 2023).

Objectives

  • Describe C4-MNP activities in areas of measurement development, benchmarking, practice improvement and opportunities to participate.
  • Discuss vulnerabilities of RN staffing models due to a global nursing shortage, toxic work environments and increased nursing turnover.
  • Identify variations and similarities of recruitment, turnover and retention practices of pediatric critical care programs.
