Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

This session expands knowledge of organ donors after brain and circulatory death. Key concepts include evidence-based guidelines, pharmacologic interventions, strategies to maximize organ function and specialty consents needed for donation. Interventions to engage families are reviewed. Representatives from the ICU and organ procurement as well as poignant insights from a donor mom conclude the session in a video to highlight best practices from all perspectives.

Objectives

  • Identify key criteria utilized for confirming brain death or determining opportunity for organ donation after circulatory death.
  • Apply multidisciplinary strategies for facilitating organ donation in pediatric and adult patients while supporting their families.
  • Employ evidence-based guidelines for management of the potential organ donor, including pharmacologic agents.
