Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Providing the option for family presence during resuscitation is a core component of patient-centered care. At times, however, extenuating circumstances such as the COVID-19 pandemic make this impossible. In this foundational session, we invite nurses to immerse themselves in the evidence base for family presence and learn, or revisit, how to incorporate this into practice. We also explore best practices for leaders interested in developing comprehensive family presence programs.

Objectives

  • Summarize the state of the science on family presence during resuscitation and invasive procedures.
  • Explain expected practices and supporting evidence for nurses facilitating family presence during resuscitation and invasive procedures.
  • Identify best practices for leaders developing a family presence program.
