Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

This session is unique as it prepares nurses to know what to do if they find themselves at the scene or bedside of a mass shooting victim. This interactive and engaging lecture and case-based session guides nurses through a mass shooting event. Careful attention is paid to equipping attendees with knowledge of the emergency response. Hemorrhagic shock is common with mass shootings. On-scene hemorrhage control interventions are reviewed. Pharmacologic and mechanical options are covered.

  • Appraise current literature surrounding mass shootings.
  • Discuss the nurse’s role in the response to mass shootings.
  • Define pharmacologic and mechanical options to manage hemorrhagic shock.
