Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) cause hundreds of thousands of children in the United States to be admitted to emergency departments every year. When the TBI is severe enough, patients need admittance for close neurological and cardiopulmonary monitoring in the PICU. This advanced session outlines the critical care management of TBI and utilizes case studies to discuss current treatment standards and related patient outcomes.

Objectives

  • Discuss current treatment practices and standards for the most common traumatic brain injuries (TBI) managed in the PICU.
  • Differentiate among the three classifications of TBI severity.
  • Identify methods of minimizing morbidity and mortality related to TBI.
