Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

The history of nursing confirms that nurses who challenge the status quo are often responsible for changing healthcare for the better This session provides a compelling case for the importance of political citizenship and using our collective voices to change legislation and healthcare policy. Specific strategies attendees can use to increase their political acumen are offered. This session is designed for the intermediate learner.

Objectives

  • Define political citizenship.
  • Describe how nurses, by virtue of their advocacy skills, can provide expertise in a variety of policy areas.
  • Enumerate three strategies nurses can employ to optimize their professional citizenship acumen.
