Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

An advanced review of emergency blood administration and massive transfusion protocol for the management of pediatric hemorrhage is the focus of this session. The purpose and key roles of different blood products, indications, best practice guidelines for an MTP, equipment, potential complications and the postinfusion management of the patient are covered. Innovate orientation methods of PICU RNs who manage the MTP Lead role are also discussed.

Objectives

  • Identify best practice guidelines for a pediatric emergency blood and massive transfusion protocol in the pediatric patient.
  • Analyze an MTP protocol and training program for potential adapting in other centers.
  • Describe a comprehensive training program for the MTP lead role of the PICU RN.
