Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Feeling lost in the daily challenges of healthcare, nurses can suffer indifference, resort to blaming and sometimes feel completely powerless to influence their future. This foundational session gives participants insight into roles they can play at work, including persecutor, victim, spectator and hero. This highly interactive session helps participants learn practical ways to amplify their power in the workplace through self-awareness, individual responsibility and living fully in choice.

Objectives

  • Describe the characters nurses can play in the work setting that rob them of their personal power.
  • Create a vision for the powerful, impactful clinical nurse leader you aspire to be in your work team.
  • Design a blueprint for how you can be more fully alive in your practice, avoiding the traps of persecutor, victim, spectator and hero.
