Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Nurses face ethical challenges every day and yet may not possess adequate knowledge, skills or confidence to effectively address these challenges in an analytical and systematic way. In this session, the audience is guided through two patient cases and provided with foundational ethics knowledge and decision-making frameworks to provide ethically defensible recommendations and to mitigate moral distress.

Objectives

  • Identify everyday ethical challenges in critical care and how to systematically work through them.
  • Describe different ethical frameworks to inform decision-making.
  • Recognize moral distress and provide effective peer support.
