Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Once thought to be the specialty of the so-called knife-and-gun club, trauma has become increasingly complex and nuanced. Traumatic injuries require the nurse to look at the big picture and understand how underlying medical problems affect immediate trauma care. This mastery session provides the nurse with a review of trauma care, injury and violence prevention, triage protocols and trauma ethics.

Objectives

  • Distinguish between the primary and secondary survey in a trauma assessment.
  • Recognize and treat early symptoms of shock in the trauma patient.
  • Identify injury prevention strategies and implementation tools in the community.
