Due to language barriers, linguistically diverse patients are more likely to experience ICU delirium and its sequelae. This session provides a foundational understanding of individual and systemic barriers to providing equitable ICU delirium prevention care. Case-study discussion illustrates the benefits of incorporating culturally and linguistically appropriate adaptations into the ABCDEF bundle. Attendees leave with actionable nursing-driven strategies to improve health equity in critical care.

Objectives

  • Describe the current state of evidence regarding equitable access to healthcare for linguistically diverse patients.
  • Analyze the facilitators and barriers to evidence-based ICU delirium prevention and mitigation for linguistically diverse patients.
  • Identify actionable steps toward overcoming barriers to implementing the ABCDEF bundle for linguistically diverse patients in critical care.
