Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Survival rate for in-hospital cardiac arrest is less than 20%, highlighting the importance of implementing evidence-based strategies during and post resuscitation. An APRN and a critical care clinical pharmacy specialist review evidence of when to administer epinephrine, monitoring end-tidal CO2 to guide resuscitation, implementation of prone CPR and mechanical compression devices, as well as help you determine if targeted temperature management is still cool.

Objectives

  • Describe evidence for resuscitating in-hospital cardiac arrest patients (eg, timing of epinephrine administration, achieving quality CPR).
  • Evaluate the evidence for prone CPR to help clinicians determine its effectiveness and implementation in the clinical setting.
  • Interpret the postresuscitation literature to guide the use of targeted temperature management.
