Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Advanced practice nurses (APRNs) are well positioned to address a known treatment gap for those suffering from opioid use disorder. This session provides foundational information about opioid use disorder, opioid withdrawal management and harm reduction strategies for this vulnerable patient population. Audience members walk away from this session with an increased understanding and comfort towards caring for those with opioid use disorder in a hospitalized setting.

Objectives

  • Recognize common symptoms of opioid withdrawal.
  • Recall the evidence-based medications for opioid use disorder and medications used for withdrawal symptoms.
  • Summarize some common harm reduction principles for opioid use disorder.
