Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Good precepting builds healthy and productive teams but is a challenging skill. This foundational course explores current research in the learning sciences and challenges common misconceptions that do not add value to preceptor training. Embedding principles from the disciplines of education, psychology, and neuroscience into orientation culture enriches workplace practices. Anyone seeking inspiration to develop or to redesign their preceptor or orientation programs are encouraged to attend.

Objectives

  • Identify what neuromyths are commonly regarded as truth in adult learning programs
  • Explain the principles and tenets of Mind, Brain, and Education (MBE) science as they pertain to nursing orientation
  • Evaluate how MBE science can be embedded in one’s own orientation and preceptor development programs
