Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Collective nurse knowledge (skill mix) is associated with better patient outcomes and reduced nurse burnout. Virtual nurse programs can enhance skill mix and ensure Synergy (match between patient needs and nurse competency) but inconsistent and ineffective planning can lead to ineffective and unsustainable virtual care models. AACN has developed a plethora of resources to assist organizations in strategic planning, implementing and sustaining virtual care programs.

Objectives

  • Describe the impact of the nursing shortage to safe, timely, efficient, effective, equitable, patient-centered (STEEEP) care.
  • Discover tools to strengthen the nursing workforce, sustain healthy work environments and ensure appropriate staffing mix.
  • Examine ways in which expert nurses and APNs can proactively conduct surveillance and guide practice patterns remotely.
