Activity Summary

Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

Using the Healthy Work Environment Assessment Tool results, a high acuity intensive care unit successfully implemented changes that improved employee satisfaction despite facing many obstacles post pandemic. As a bedside nurse led initiative, one unit was able to drive changes to invigorate and re-establish a healthy work environment during their Beacon journey. This session will discuss how this unit improved employee satisfaction through staff nurse-driven strategies using the AACNs HWEAT.

Objectives

  • Describe how the HWEAT can serve as a mechanism to identify opportunities for direct care staff nurses to improve unit processes as measured in staff satisfaction/engagement surveys.
  • Discuss strategies to drive staff participation in the HWEAT survey including how to successfully utilize a multi-survey approach.
  • Describe how participation in the HWEAT is an important step in preparing a unit to apply for the Beacon Award for Excellence.
