Required reading for all learners: Implicit Bias impacts patient outcomes

This session discusses the care of gender diverse patients with a focus on gender affirming hormone therapy. We outline terminology used to discuss gender diverse people as well as some of the historical roadblocks patients have faced when navigating the health care system. The session then delves more deeply in the common gender affirming hormone therapy used and how they should be considered in an inpatient setting. Case based discussions are used as a springboard for conversation.

Objectives

  • Recognize the challenges gender diverse patients may face in navigating the health care system.
  • Explain the guidelines surrounding care of gender diverse adults from World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
  • Describe risk and benefits of common gender affirming hormone therapy regimens and their role in hospitalized patients.
