Activity Summary

Learning styles are a myth but are frequently featured in preceptor training programs. Good precepting builds healthy and productive teams and therefore deserves evidence-based support. This foundational course presents models to be used in the development of precepting skills and orientation programs based on current research in the learning sciences. Embedding principles from the disciplines of education, psychology, and neuroscience into orientation culture is essential. Anyone seeking inspiration to (re)design their preceptor or orientation program is encouraged to attend.

Objectives

  • Dissect myths commonly regarded as truth in adult learning programs.
  • Classify concepts associated with robust evidence in the learning sciences.
  • Apply appropriate learning strategies which can be integrated into local precepting and orientation programs.
