Activity Summary

Patients with severe thermal injuries experience major physiologic challenges unique to this form of trauma. This interactive presentation uses a case study approach to examine how to safely assess, resuscitate and manage the patient with severe burns and help them on the road to recovery. Pharmacology content = 20%

Objectives

  • Identify patient presentations which are appropriate for referral to a certified burn center.
  • Develop a plan for shock resuscitation in a patient with thermal injuries, according to the American Burn Association guidelines.
  • Apply understanding of pharmacologic principles to safely prescribe drugs in the management of patients with acute thermal injuries.
