Activity Summary

The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses (AACN) identified six Standards for Establishing and Sustaining Healthy Work Environments (HWEs) to improve patient outcomes, increase nurse engagement and lower burnout. First, results from a pilot group completing the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) in 2022 reveal high levels of burnout. Next, leadership uses the Mini-Z and the HWE Assessment Tool to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies on staff well-being. In this presentation, the facilitator relies on panel members to describe the results of using the tools and the implementation strategies to promote each of the six standards.

Objectives

  • To explain staff burnout and well-being levels before adopting the healthy work environment standards.
  • To identify strategies to promote the AACN Healthy Work Environment standards to improve patient outcomes.
  • Analyze the results of the HWE Assessment Tool and improvement opportunities to improve staff well-being.
