Activity Summary

With a 30-plus year career as an acute and critical care nurse focused on building an environment that supports a spirit of inquiry, generates nursing science, and promotes evidence-based practice, the facilitator has a wealth of experience to share. A career that can be seen as a tapestry of diverse foci is woven together by two central goals: to build science that supports independent nursing practice interventions, and to remove barriers for nurses to use and sustain adoption of best-evidence into practice. Sharing this journey inspires nurses to be evidence-based practice clinicians.

Objectives

  • Review principles of scientific inquiry to advance nursing practice.
  • Describe a career of scholarship focused on independent nursing practice to improve patient outcomes.
  • Discuss strategies to break down barriers and foster a spirit of inquiry.
