Activity Summary

One might consider whether extended reality (XR) and the metaverse are shiny new boxes for nursing education, or even question what the metaverse and XR are to begin with. Further, consider what types of educational activities can be created, or are available for use in our educational systems, and whether XR can be used to evaluate competency. These are some of the questions answered in this intermediate session. Live courses, immersive 360 videos and simulations are a few of the mechanisms to engage students and create a dynamic and interactive learning opportunity.

Objectives

  • Describe extended-reality technology and the metaverse.
  • Discuss decision-making regarding appropriate hardware and software.
  • Develop use cases for emerging technology in nursing education.
