Activity Summary

Identifying pulmonary artery catheter waveforms is only a piece of the puzzle to understanding their utilization in guiding patient care. This interactive session teaches nurses the core principles of pulmonary artery catheter management and advanced hemodynamics to bring all the pieces together to see the whole picture. Case scenarios are presented on cardiogenic shock, heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.

Objectives

  • Identify the various ports and chambers monitored by a pulmonary artery catheter.
  • Interpret waveform and hemodynamic data obtained from pulmonary artery catheters.
  • Discuss the pathophysiology creating abnormal hemodynamic parameters.
