Activity Summary

While thousands of victims experience hospitalizations while they are being trafficked, most are not identified as victims and they go on to continue experiencing exploitation and abuse. This training dispels myths about human trafficking and provides foundational knowledge for healthcare workers to begin bridging the gaps that exist in many healthcare settings. The education includes indicators of trafficking, case studies of trafficking victims, in-depth education on the neurobiology of trauma, why people are vulnerable to exploitation, and best practices in responding and reporting.

Objectives

  • Identify signs of human trafficking in patients in the hospital setting.
  • Apply knowledge of how to respond to patients who may be experiencing exploitation.
  • Explain current best practices in screening, reporting and advocacy for patients who are experiencing exploitation.
