Activity Summary

This presentation explores the most recent epidemiology of HIV incidence in the United States. In addition, the processes associated with diagnosis of HIV infection in acute care settings, with an emphasis on ICUs, are provided. Finally, antiretroviral therapy (ART) is reviewed. Direction on the clinical management of ART in people living with HIV (and those initially diagnosed) who are also presenting with concurrent high-acuity and life-threatening illnesses is provided.   • Describe diagnosis of HIV in acute care settings, including consent, confidentiality and counseling, laboratory and confirmatory assays.
