Medical cannabis may be useful in symptom control for many acute and chronic diseases, but limited clinical research leaves prescribers to use anecdotal reports and conjecture. Despite centuries-long history, use of the cannabis plant remains controversial. This presentation reviews indications, contraindications, side effects, pharmacokinetics and doses of medical cannabis, and touches upon social, legal, economic, political, financial and health-related implications to its use.   • Define the two main cannabinoids: tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD).
