Activity Summary

This very interactive session breaks down the different components of blood gas values, how to interpret simple acid-base disorders and reviews appropriate nursing interventions to benefit our patients. Topics include respiratory acidosis, respiratory alkalosis, non-anion gap metabolic acidosis, high anion gap metabolic acidosis and metabolic alkalosis.

  • Describe the basic physiology of pH, acids and bases.
  • List appropriate nursing interventions to improve acid-base disorders.
  • Explain the steps to interpret blood gasses.
