Activity Summary

Something is secretly killing our nursing workforce. Burnout and extreme stress exist among 20%50% of critical care nurses. This has contributed to the increasing nursing shortage and the health and well-being of nurses. This foundational session focuses on self, coworker and leadership awareness of burnout and stress in the nurses. Simple and effective strategies to mediate stress and burnout are outlined and demonstrated. The goal is to leave the session with tools you can use in your daily life to reduce stress, promote optimal health and maintain longevity as nurses.

Objectives

  • Identify and understand the prevalence of burnout and stress in the nursing profession and what influence it has on our work environments.
  • Examine the effect stress and burnout has on short- and long-term health outcomes.
  • Discuss and demonstrate simple and effective tools to reduce stress and mitigate burnout in the workplace.
