Activity Summary

This interactive session uses a case-study format to discuss the complex care of the CRRT patient. Participants in this session discuss the competing interests for nursing care and support in the multisystem patient on CRRT. We discuss how nursing decision-making impacts the success of CRRT, as evidenced by achievement of patient fluid and electrolyte and pH goals. We discuss the impact evidence-based nursing care of all the patient systems has on patient outcomes.

Objectives

  • Describe the challenges of the multisystem organ failure patient who requires renal replacement therapy.
  • Discuss the nursing decision-making process during the management renal replacement therapy in the multisystem organ failure patient.
  • Examine the impact of nursing interventions on the success of renal replacement therapy.
