Activity Summary

Sepsis is one of the leading causes of death. Suspicion and immediate treatment of sepsis are essential to reduce mortality and morbidity. Learn from a septic shock survivor and multiple amputee, a nurse and physician as they follow the sepsis survivor’s medical journey from initial symptoms, onset of sepsis, through recognition, treatment and recovery. Details of the case, such as symptoms, clinical presentation and test results are referenced and discussed. At least one person attending this session is likely to save someone’s life as a result.

  • Review the current sepsis mortality and morbidity facts.
  • Examine the case of a septic shock survivor and multiple amputee from a physician, nurse, and patient perspective.
  • Identify the opportunities throughout the case for positive interactions with clinicians, the patient and caregivers.
