Activity Summary

In this interactive session, evolving case studies about rapid response scenarios are used to teach concepts. Through a fun game-show format, the audience learns a systematic approach for assessing and treating deteriorating patients as well as strategies for facilitating an organized and efficient team effort. Critical care nurses respond and lead the rescue of patients who are acutely deteriorating in and outside of the ICU. Both clinical expertise and team leadership skills are needed to achieve the best outcome for patients (and to win in this game show).

Objectives

  • Formulate a systematic approach for assessment and management of acutely deteriorating patients.
  • Apply team leadership strategies that promote healthy dynamics between the emergency response team and the bedside nurses on the floors.
  • Identify priority interventions for unstable patients with complicated clinical presentations.
