Activity Summary

Trauma is the number 1 cause of death for children between 1 and 21 years of age. This presentation identifies the most common causes of trauma related to the developmental age of the child. ATLS-derived care priorities are utilized to manage the treatment of pediatric patients via case studies. Assessment and management of pediatric trauma are the focus.

Objectives

  • Analyze the management strategies to stabilize a child with head injury.
  • Formulate differential diagnoses for common injuries associated with blunt abdominal trauma.
  • Explain strategies to improve outcomes in patients with penetrating trauma.
