Activity Summary

Nursing faculty have an opportunity to influence the next generation of nurses. However, without adequate preparation the transition from clinical to academia may be met with disappointment. Attendees who are considering such a transition learn about the process of changing professional roles and challenging issues in the nursing academic field. Attendees are presented with strategies to navigate the transition and enjoy fulfillment in the academic role.

Objectives

  • Describe the process of transition from a clinical role to a nursing faculty role.
  • List common issues faced by nurse educators new to the academic role that may lead to disappointment with the role.
  • Explain strategies to mitigate disappointment and achieve success as a novice nurse educator.
